New Delhi: The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, held in New Delhi on October 26–27, has called for comprehensive United Nations reforms, stronger global governance and expanded cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology and sustainable development.
In a joint declaration themed “Fostering Parliaments for People-Centric Development”, presiding officers and representatives from 11 BRICS member countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening parliamentary cooperation and amplifying the voice of the Global South.
The declaration called for reform of the UN Security Council to make it more representative, democratic and effective. It also stressed the need for climate action, technology transfer and financial support for developing countries.
The participating nations highlighted AI’s potential to drive economic growth and improve parliamentary functioning, while calling for safe, inclusive and equitable access to emerging technologies and stronger data protection.

The declaration condemned terrorism, including the April 22, 2025, attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people, and called for stronger international cooperation against cross-border terrorism and terror financing.
On West Asia, the forum urged restraint, civilian protection and diplomatic efforts towards lasting peace. It reaffirmed support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The participating parliaments also backed sustainable development, women’s political participation and greater people-to-people exchanges. The forum is scheduled to reconvene in 2027 under China’s BRICS chairship.
