New Delhi: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme with an outlay of ₹1,856.67 crore for 2026-27 to 2033-34, aiming to strengthen domestic manufacturing, attract investment and boost exports.
Announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, the scheme seeks to make India a globally competitive hub for sports goods by supporting technology adoption, research, innovation, skill development and international quality certification.
A major component involves developing dedicated Sports Goods Manufacturing Zones through existing industrial infrastructure, including BHAVYA and NICDC industrial parks. The initiative aims to bring manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities and design centres together to improve efficiency and build integrated supply chains.

The scheme allocates ₹1,130 crore for anchor investment and turnover-linked support to encourage new manufacturing facilities, expand production and reduce import dependence.
It also provides ₹105 crore to help manufacturers obtain and renew certifications from international sports federations, improving product quality and access to overseas markets.
The plan includes support for MSMEs, existing manufacturing clusters, research centres, start-ups and industry-aligned skill development. Collaboration with educational institutions and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation is expected to promote advanced materials, sports equipment design and manufacturing technologies.
The government said the initiative would generate employment, attract private investment and strengthen India’s position in global sports goods supply chains, in line with Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Khelo Bharat Niti 2025.
