Military Action Cannot Resolve Global Conflicts, Diplomacy Must Be Given Space: Jaishankar at G20

Atlanta: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said military solutions cannot resolve global conflicts and called for greater space for diplomacy during the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Atlanta.

Addressing the first session, Jaishankar warned that attacks on civilian vessels and seafarers were severely affecting countries in the Global South, disrupting supplies and pushing up the prices of fuel, food and fertilisers.

He called for freedom of navigation to be protected under international law and demanded an immediate end to attacks on maritime traffic. He also highlighted an India-Liberia initiative to improve seafarers’ safety.

Jaishankar said supply chains should not be weaponised and developing countries must retain access to markets and the right to industrialise. He also stressed the need for alternative connectivity networks and cautioned against overlooking terrorism for political reasons.
