Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain triggered by Cyclone Arnab has affected southern Odisha, with Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam among the worst-hit districts.

Seventeen blocks recorded over 105 mm of rainfall, with Patangi in Koraput receiving the highest at 188 mm, followed by Mohana in Gajapati at 182.4 mm.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said no casualties had been reported so far, crediting the government’s preparedness and disaster management measures.

The state has deployed 313 emergency response teams, including Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, National Disaster Response Force and fire service personnel. Eight ministers are overseeing relief operations across eight districts.

A total of 23,827 people have been moved to 634 relief centres. More than 2,200 pregnant women were shifted to safety, while 931 babies were delivered safely, officials said.

Authorities are clearing fallen trees and monitoring flood-prone areas. Majhi said compensation would be provided to farmers after assessing damage to paddy crops.
