ABVP Makes Strong Gains in Odisha Student Union Elections, Wins 8 President Posts

Bhubaneswar: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has made a strong showing in Odisha’s student union elections, winning eight president posts and 11 general secretary posts across 13 universities, according to the organisation.

The student outfit also claimed clean sweeps in six universities, describing the results as a reflection of students’ confidence in its leadership and service-oriented activities on campuses.

The results drew a response from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who congratulated ABVP activists on their victory.

In a post on X, Shah said ABVP’s performance in Odisha, following its victories at Panjab University and Delhi University, sent a message about the political and ideological preferences of the country’s youth.

He said the results indicated that young people supported the ideology of “Nation First” rather than what he described as forces spreading misinformation, illusions and anarchy.

Shah also characterised the victory as a strong response from young voters to what he called anti-national forces.

ABVP described the outcome as a mandate in favour of student leadership and service, asserting that its performance across the universities demonstrated its growing support among students.

The election results mark a significant development in campus politics in Odisha, where student organisations compete for representation in university unions.
